Trigger Points

Picture
Trigger points are contracted muscle fibers that stay contracted and never fully release due to a lack of oxygen or nutrients supplied by the blood.  This energy crises does not allow muscles to work properly and release to their full range of motion and relax.  Trigger points, also referred to as "knots" are usually tender and painful to the touch and can refer pain to other areas of the body.  Studies have show trigger points to be the primary cause for about 75 percent of chronic pain cases! These taut bands are tightly stretched and can feel like a cord or cable.

By applying concentrated pressure, manipulative techniques and stretching, massage can restore blood supply to contracted muscle fibers and eliminate trigger points.
